Ann Gauger on Limits of Evolutionary Optimization

On this episode of ID The Future, Andrew McDiarmid talks to Dr. Ann Gauger, a senior research scientist at Biologic Institute and co-author with Dr. Douglas Axe of a new paper recently published in the journal BIO-COMPLEXITY that probes the limits of evolutionary optimization. Gauger explains how she and Axe tested popular hypotheses for protein origins and discovered that while mutation and selection can improve the proficiency of good designs through small adjustments, they seem unable to convert fortuitous selectable activities into good designs. Enjoy the interview, then read the full paper here!

On Human Origins: Ann Gauger Says “There’s Too Much to Do and Not Enough Time”

On this episode of ID the Future, hear an excerpt of a presentation by Dr. Ann Gauger, recorded at a “Science and Human Origins” conference, sponsored by Discovery Institute in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Sept. 20, 2014. In this segment, Ann Gauger discusses why there isn’t enough time in the fossil record to account for human/chimp genetic differences.

Does Science Show “There Was No First Human”?

On this episode of ID the Future, Casey Luskin talks with Dr. Ann Gauger about her criticisms of the PBS video, “There Was No First Human,” that attempts to show how evolutionary change happens. The video makes the claim that evolution has been a continuous and gradual process — a claim that many evolutionary biologists would disagree with, and that is not supported by evidence from the fossil record. Listen in as Dr. Gauger explains.

Dr. Ann Gauger: Biology Still Surprises Us

On this episode of ID the Future, Andrew McDiarmid talks with biologist Ann Gauger about the ability of biology to continually surprise us — even when we think the science is settled. Dr. Gauger discusses some scientific “facts” that have since been disproved, and also reflects on her own experiences as a student, and later as a researcher, as she has realized that life is much more sophisticated than we could have imagined.

Why Popular Ideas about Human-Chimp Comparisons Are Misleading or Wrong

On this episode of ID the Future, biologist Ann Gauger discusses the popular science myth that human DNA is only 1% different from that of chimps. Dr. Gauger shows why this common claim is false, looking at genomic evidence as well as large-scale differences between humans and chimps. Ann Gauger is a senior research scientist at Biologic Institute. Her work uses molecular genetics and genomic engineering to study the origin, organization and operation of metabolic pathways. Her research has been published in Nature, Development, and the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Science & Human Origins: Interview With Dr. Ann Gauger, Pt. 2

On this episode of ID the Future, Casey Luskin and Ann Gauger, co-authors of Science & Human Origins, discuss the assumptions behind the Darwinian evolutionist’s argument for common ancestry. Are these assumptions valid, or are there too many unknown variables? Dr. Gauger presents the inconsistencies between the Darwinian doctrine of common ancestry and the evidence from population genetics.

Metamorphosis Video Exclusive: Transformation is Still a Mystery

In this episode of ID The Future, Dr. Ann Gauger, senior research scientist at the Biologic Institute, recognizes that metamorphosis is still an unknown phenomenon for scientists: “We know just the bare outlines of a few of the processes involved for metamorphosis – it’s a mystery.”

An Insurmountable Problem for Darwinian Evolution

On this episode of ID the Future Casey Luskin continues his interview with Dr. Ann Gauger, senior researcher at the Biologic Institute, about her experimental work evolving enzymes in the lab, honing in on how complex and specified enzymes are generated and testing Darwinian predictions experimentally. Listen in as she share what her most recent study discovered about an insurmountable problem for evolution.
