A Designed Universe Makes Meaning Real, Not Illusory
Watch Episode
Why are we here? Does life, or the universe, mean anything? And if it does, what? Today on ID The Future, host Andrew McDiarmid explores those questions and more with physicist and author Dr. Eric Hedin. Using the recent documentary film The Story of Everything as a springboard for discussion, Hedin shows that cumulative scientific evidence is pointing to a purposeful universe, not a cosmic accident.
Materialist narratives portray human existence as the product of mindless physical processes, something Dr. Hedin characterizes as a pandemic of meaninglessness, where human purpose is reduced to an illusion. But modern science, says Hedin, is actually telling a very different story. Key scientific discoveries of the last century point toward an intelligent mind behind the cosmos. Hedin argues that this evidence undergirds a meaningful meta-narrative, a comprehensive story that demonstrates that human life has objective value, purpose, and significance in the cosmos. We’re not accidental evolutionary constructs after all.
This is Part 1 of a two-part conversation. Look for Part 2 next!
